Floodwaters and Forgotten Footbridges: Lessons from the Grand Canyon The devastating flash floods that swept through the Grand Canyon over the weekend have left one life lost and at least 15 people still missing.

The destruction is staggering – nearly all footbridges across Bright Angel Creek were destroyed, eliminating pedestrian access across the creek, while Phantom Ranch, a historic lodge, has been severely impacted by the flooding.

The National Weather Service had warned of "raging killer currents" and "extensive damage to infrastructure in the inner canyon," highlighting the unpredictable nature of the Grand Canyon's landscape.
