The Music Tag

The Music Tag

I love music. And when I say love it, I mean my life pretty much revolves around it. It takes up a pretty massive chunk of my time, and I don’t begrudge it that for one second. I spend a lot of time listening to music, buying music and merchandise, reading about my favourite bands, watching interviews, and going to gigs. I love having music around me all the time, when I’m out walking, when I’m painting, when I’m having a bath, and when I’m going to sleep!

I didn’t always go to gigs, I wasted a lot of time on the wrong people in the past and neglected my true passions, and it’s only really this year that I’ve started doing what I want and going to see all my favourite bands live. There are some bands that I’ve literally waited for ten years to see, so to finally do so is truly a dream come true! There are others that I loved years ago that I didn’t have the chance to get to know back then, and it’s fantastic to get reacquainted with them now, and fall in love with their music all over again. There are still so many musicians that I want to see, slowly but surely, I’m ticking them off my list, and I’m having the time of my life!

I’ve said it many times before that animals and music are the two loves of my life, and I truly believe that you should chase your passion. I have NEVER regretted chasing a dream, but I do regret wasting all that time to please the wrong people and putting my passions to one side.

“The things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling.”

So my advice to everyone is, it’s YOUR life, do what makes you happy, and don’t ever be afraid to chase your dreams. If it gives you a rush and scares the hell out of you at the same time, chances are, you’re in the right place! You will never regret doing the things that make you happy, but you will regret the what if’s. Stop wasting time, get out there and make some memories!

Phew. So, on that freaking heavy note, I’m going to stop rambling, let’s do something fun! I came across this music tag and I decided I had to give it a go! Feel free to steal it, sweeties!

Which bands/artist do you own the most albums by?

I actually reorganized my CD collection the other day, and the number of The Rasmus CDs way outnumbers any other band! I’m pretty sure I own every album, single and CD they’ve ever released!

What’s your ringtone?

It’s Back in Black by AC/DC, right now.

What is your favourite musical quote?

“If it’s illegal to rock ‘n’ roll, throw my ass in jail.” Kurt Cobain.

How do you listen to music (CDs, download, etc)?

In every way possible, except for downloading. I love buying physical CDs, it’s never the same to just download an album, you can’t look through the booklet and read the lyrics, and you can’t get it signed! I copy my music onto my iPod, and I also listen to Spotify quite a lot.

What song would you like played at your funeral?

The Great Pretender, by Freddie Mercury, or I’m Not Okay by My Chemical Romance, I think that would be funny! But seriously, it would have to be something by the Rasmus.

What was the last song you listened to?

It was American Boys by Halestorm. What a killer band!

What was the last show you attended?

I went to see Hoobastank, P.O.D, and Alien Ant Farm with my little sister at KOKO in Camden, London. It was so freaking epic!

What shows are you looking forward to this year?

I’ve got tickets to see Cradle of Filth, Nightwish, HIM and Culture Club this year, and I can’t even think about them right now without needing a cigarette and a lie down, haha!

What shows would you like to go to next?

I would really love to see Metallica, Lordi, and Apocalyptica, next, and it would be really cool to see Ozzy sometime, too! I wanted to see Halestorm and Black Stone Cherry but the tickets were sold out by the time I went to buy them *sobs*.

What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?

I’d love to hang out with Dani Filth, I’ll bet he’s a super fun guy and has some interesting stories to tell over a beer or two.

Who is one musician or group you wish would make a comeback?

I really, really wish Good Charlotte and My Chemical Romance would come back because I never got a chance to see them live and I miss them big time! I was super happy that Evanescence reunited recently, and I’m eagerly waiting for the to announce a UK tour because I will so be there!

What is your favourite music magazine?

I love Terrorizer, Metal Hammer and Kerrang! (although Kerrang! really needs to get the heck over Black Veil Brides and featuring them in EVERY issue!). I’d love to start my own music magazine!

Who is your favourite musician?

Lauri Ylönen (The Rasmus) and Doug Robb (Hoobastank).

What is your favourite band?

I have a top four! Hoobastank, The Rasmus, Placebo, and Linkin Park, and I think I’ll have to add a fifth very soon because I absolutely adore Sunrise Avenue!

Have you ever met any of your favourite musicians?

Yes, I met Doug Robb! They say you should never meet your idols, but meeting him totally exceeded my expectations, and I still smile like an idiot when I think about it! If I could still meet Lauri Ylönen, I would totally die happy.

First band you were ever into?

The Rasmus! Yeah, there’s a running theme here!

What musical instrument do you wish you could play?

It’s probably fairly obvious, but I would totally love to be able to play the guitar like a pro.

If you could travel back in time to meet one musician, who would it be?

This is really hard! But I’m gonna have to say Freddie Mercury, even though I’d love to have met Elvis and Kurt Cobain, too!

Would you ever get a tattoo of your favourite band?

Hell, yeah! I’d get a whole bunch of them, one to represent each one my favorite bands! I’d especially like a HIM heartagram.

What do you think of this tag, you guys? Care to give it a whizz?

Rock on!

I loved the tag and like you, I didn’t go to many gigs in the past and I hope I change this soon! I also prefer to buy CDs than to download them and people call me stupid, but I don’t care! I like Ozzy very much, and Lordi is great and w-o-w, you are the first person I “know” that likes Placebo, and I say this, because I like Placebo too – and no one understands it – or even, many don’t know them! Hope you have a very nice weekend!

Ahh it would be so awesome to meet Freddie Mercury! It’s so true Amanda, chasing your dreams makes you feel alive, as if you’ve awoken and answering your life’s call! It’s so great you’ve finally gotten to go see your favourite musicians! I heard this quote the other day, which I love, “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it’ll take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway”, so you might as well spend you’re time doing something you enjoy! :)X

  10. Such a cool post idea, there aren’t a lot bloggers out where who talk about music. I totally agree with you, Amanda! It’s really important not to waste time. I’ve recently read: Sometimes you have to unfollow people in real life. And that’s SO, SO true! There were a time of my life where I listened a lot to Placebo as well as Nirvana when I was younger. This kind of music will always have a certain place in my heart since I associate a lot of feelings with it. I love your energy and passion when you talk about your fave bands. That’s really inspring, Amanda and so your post! Have a lovely weekend, love!

That is SO true, you DO have to unfollow some people in real life 🙂 what a great way to put it! Listened to in the past tense? I’m 100% sure I’m stuck loving these bands for life, haha, when I’m like 90 I’ll still be nodding to Placebo and Nirvana 😉 I’m so glad you liked my post, Ira, thanks so much for stopping by! xxx

  11. Back in Black as a ringtone.. that’s awesome! Though I’m always hesitant to use a favourite song as a ringtone.. as I’m not a phone person.. and I’m afraid I will end up resenting a tune because I don’t like to pick up the phone. 😛

It was one of my first songs on the guitar though! 🙂

I know what you mean! But don’t worry, I change my ringtone on a regular basis so I don’t start resenting any of my favourites 😉 at the moment it’s the Doctor Who theme tune! Thanks very much for stopping by!
